The Evanston Police Department cautions residents about a door-to-door scam involving a purported memorial basketball tournament at Robert Crown Center.
The EPD has received reports of youths going door-to-door soliciting donations for the tournament, supposedly to be held in remembrance of an Evanston Township High School student who was shot and killed.
Police advise residents that there is no such tournament planned at the Robert Crown Center and that a laminated photo sometimes shown is of an individual killed in Chicago in 2014. Any resident who encounters any suspicious request for a donation is asked to contact the Evanston Police Department at 847-866-5000.
