Beach Safety week is June 7-15, and on June 7 the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project, the City of Evanston and Northwestern University will present a free program on water safety from 10 a.m. to noon at Northwestern’s sailing center, 1823 Campus Drive.

Among the presentations will be how to recognize signs of drowning and how to identify a person in distress; the danger of certain water currents, and the “flip, float and follow” method of coping with them.

Families are welcome. Free parking is available in the adjacent visitor center/garage.
