On June 8, Peter Godard, chief officer of research, accountability and data for District 65, reported that many families with incoming kindergarten students in the Lincoln attendance area accepted seats at one of the magnet schools or permissive transfers to another school. He said there are 114 kindergarten students in the Lincoln attendance area who registered with District 65, and that 47 accepted a seat at another school. As a result, 67 kindergartners are currently registered at Lincoln, far below the limit of 92 that was established by the School Board.
In light of these figures, Mr. Godard said no lottery for kindergarten seats at Lincoln school will be necessary this school year. He said the remaining kindergarten seats at Lincoln will be made available on a first come, first served basis to any student living in the Lincoln attendance area. If the limit of 92 students is reached, the District will help families who are affected to select among available seats at magnet and neighborhood schools, he said.
