Join the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian on Saturday, July 11 from 2:00-4:00 pm for a group bicycle tour exploring Native American landmarks in Evanston and Wilmette that are essential to the heritage and history of our region.

To many residents, Green Bay Road may signify the gateway to the North Shore, a pre-highway thoroughfare, or just a convenient diagonal route. Most don’t know that it is actually an ancient trail used by Native Americans for many centuries. Riders will learn about this and four more historically significant locations during a guided 7-mile circuit that kicks off with a brief history introduction at the Mitchell Museum.

Though the stories of these sites may not be featured in a John Hughes film, they are essential to understanding the area’s history. Stand before the land once home to a Neshnab’e Village. Learn about Potawatomi trail markers. Besides being educational, “Touring through Time” is also a great way to get out, get moving, and enjoy a beautiful summer afternoon on the North Shore.

“Touring through Time” is $10 for Mitchell Museum members and $12 for non-members. Participants must furnish their own bikes and helmets. Water bottles are encouraged. Thanks to generous support from Wilmette Bicycle and Sports Shop, there will be a water stop along the route. For more information, including a detailed map of the ride, contact Visitor Services at (847)475-1030 or visitor.services@mitchellmuseum.org. Please RSVP by July 7. SPACE IS LIMITED

The Mitchell Museum is one of only a handful of museums in the country that focuses exclusively on the art, history and culture of American Indian and First Nation peoples throughout the United States and Canada.
