Sisters Sasha Rosenberg and Sahaira Villagomez have opened Kiwi Nail Spa at 743 Howard St., where they will offer treatment for natural and artificial nails. The address may sound familiar to patrons of Apple the Second, the stylish clothing shop that Maria von Medvey, the young women’s mother, operated in the same building until just a few months ago.
The salon is named for the bird, not the fruit, said Ms. Villagomez. The sisters chose the name Kiwi, “because it’s a universal name, and everyone can pronounce it,” she added.
At a ribbon-cutting on June 18, Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl thanked Ms. Rosenberg and Ms. Villagomez “for opening in Evanston.” She added, “It takes a lot of courage to open a new business.”
“We’re excited to start on this new vision,” Ms. Rosenberg said. “We look forward to the development on Howard Street by the right people.” She said she believes “our customer service and our employees are going to set us aside from every other nail salon.”
