Julia Sweeney

Christine Sneed and Julia Sweeney will read from their respective books in a joint author appearance at 7 p.m. on Aug. 12 in the community meeting room of the Evanston Public Library 1703 Orrington Ave.

Evanston resident Ms. Sneed will read from her new novel, “Paris, He Said,” which the New York Times called an “absorbing, original … and unexpectedly poignant” exploration of love, art, and ambition. Ms. Sneed teaches creative writing at Northwestern University and the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign.

Ms. Sweeney, a Saturday Night Live comedienne from 1990 to 1994, will read from her memoir, “If It’s Not One Thing, It’s Your Mother.” Publisher’s Weekly called the book “intimate and humorous” and said Ms. Sweeney’s “devilish sense of humor successfully makes the transition to page, linking the scenes of her life as daughter, sister, wife, and mother into a delightful whole.”

Copies of both books will be available to purchase. Registration is recommended either by calling 847-448-8620 or online at epl.org.
