Two men were shot today, July 30, at 3:52 p.m. in the 1700 block of Payne Street, said Commander Joseph Dugan of the Evanston Police Department. The two men were standing near a vehicle in the driveway of a residence in the 1700 block of Payne Street with some other people, when two males approached them from the west and began to shoot at them, said the Commander. The offenders fled on foot.
One of the victims, 51 years of age and a resident of Elgin, was struck in the right hip and left ankle. The other victim, 35 years of age and a resident of Evanston, was struck in the left leg. Both victims were transported to Evanston Hospital for treatment. At this time the injury to the 35 year old victim is not considered life-threatening. The 51 year old victim is currently in surgery and there is no condition available at this time, said the Commander.
The suspects are both described as black male in their 20’s, one wearing a black hat and black shirt and the other wearing a red shirt, said the Commander.
