The Evanston Fire Department, in cooperation with the City of Evanston Utilities Department’s Water Division, has begun its annual citywide fire hydrant testing program. Hydrant testing will take place weekdays through Friday, November 6, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
During testing, each hydrant in the city will be opened and allowed to flow water for a short period of time. This procedure provides valuable information on the status of the hydrant water system.
Some residents may notice a discoloration in their tap water while hydrants on their blocks are being tested. The discoloration should be short-lived and can be eliminated by flowing tap water. If discoloration continues, please contact the Water Division at 847-866-2942.
For more information on the program, please contact Fire Captain Tim Taylor at 847-866-5945
