On Aug. 31 at approximately 1:20 a.m., the Evanston Police Department received multiple calls of shots fired in the area of the 1800 block of Dodge Avenue. Responding officers located two male victims who had been shot near the sidewalk just north of Lyons Street. One victim, an Evanston resident, 21 years old was shot in the arm and leg. He was transported to Evanston Hospital for treatment of his injuries which are considered non-life threatening, said Commander Joseph Dugan of the Evanston Police Department.
The second victim, Donte Blackwell, 23 years old and a resident of Niles, Illinois was shot one time in the torso. He was also transported to Evanston Hospital where he was pronounced dead, said the Commander.
According to witnesses, two male offenders rode up on bicycles and after shooting both victims, fled northbound on Dodge Avenue, said the Commander. The Evanston Police Department detective division with the assistance of the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF) are currently conducting an investigation into the incident. No further information is being released at this time.
On Dec. 8, 2012, Donte Blackwell was shot multiple times outside the now-closed Siblings Bar on Howard Street, but he survived the attack.
