Toddlers and their parents or care-givers are invited to play “mailbox” together at any location of the Evanston Public Library during September.
The library will have all the gear parents/caregivers and children need – envelopes, “stamps,” a pretend Post Office mailbox, even a mail bag – to enjoy pretending to be letter writers and mail carriers together.
Librarian Martha Meyer says “Mailbox play is geared to children ages 1-3, but the activity is adaptable for preschoolers on up to second grade.” Play-writing and playing mail carrier encompasses a whole lot of essential learning in an imaginative package. This is the type of experience you might find in a preschool setting; we’re offering it at the library so that parents and children can play together on their own schedule.”
