The local branch of the NAACP Evanston/North Shore, in collaboration with the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Evanston chapter, will host a candlelight vigil Sept. 15, 7 p.m. at Fountain Square.

The candlelight vigil is in support of the culmination of  the NAACP’s 860-mile walk to Washington D.C. This Journey for Justice began Aug. 1 in Selma, Ala. It will end on Sept. 16 with a lobby day in Congress at which participants will advocate and lobby for national standards for use of force and an end to racial profiling; federal action to provide for higher quality education; prioritizing job creation and training and passing a Raise the Wage Act; and restoring and strengthening the 1965 Voting Rights Advancement Act.
