The Evanston Fire and Police departments held a memorial ceremony at 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 11 to honor the men and women who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Because of the rain, the service was held inside fire headquarters, 909 Lake St.

Fire Captain/Paramedic Jeff Boetto read the Fireman’s Prayer, and Firefighter Steve Barlock tolled the bell in memory of those who lost their lives.

At the end of the service, Fire Chief Klaiber invited everyone to “really look” at the 911 tribute that the firefighters walk by every day – a piece of metal from the twin towers and a sculpture displayed in front of the bell used for the bell ceremonies.
