Evanston North Shore Bird Club will lead two “Birds and Bagels” walks on Sept. 26 and Oct. 3 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the new bird sanctuary located just north of Clark Street Beach. Participants in either bird walk should meet at the Clark Street Beach house.

The club will sponsor “An Inordinate Fondness for Beetles, Spiders and More,” a lecture on how ecological restoration influences the insect community, by José-Cristian Martínez at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd. A Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Mr. Martinez will also discuss his recent collection trip to Costa Rica and his science outreach initiative.
