On Friday, October 2, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., Evanston manufacturing professionals and neighbors are invited to celebrate National Manufacturing Day by attending the networking breakfast for manufacturers, supporting partners, legislators, sponsors, and community leaders at Ward Manufacturing, located at 2230 Main St., in Evanston. Beginning at 9 a.m., 80 local middle school students will join the open house and tour several of Evanston’s WestEnd manufacturers to learn how each business operates and speak with professionals about the different jobs available within the industry. They will also learn how science and math are applied in various ways in each company. Following the local business tours, students will head to Evanston Township High School to learn more about manufacturing classes offered to high school students and tour its new manufacturing lab.
Once the home to steel mills, brick yards and major railroads, Evanston’s WestEnd has transformed into housing the City’s modern small to mid-size commercial enterprises, manufacturing and technology companies.
