“Dinner at Home: 140 Recipes to Enjoy with Family and Friends,” to be published Nov. 19, showcases the best recipes and stories from JeanMarie Brownson’s Chicago Tribune column of the same name.
Since 2007, Ms. Brownson has chronicled her life of cooking in this bimonthly column, featuring inventive and easy-to-make recipes. Readers will find recipes for weekday family dinners as well as dishes for parties with friends and loved ones. She also includes 20 dinner menus to help readers plan their next gathering.
Coming Nov. 1, “Red Velvet Underground: A Rock Memoir” by indie-rock musician Freda Love Smith, is part memoir and part cookbook. It tells the story of how Ms. Smith’s indie-rock past evolved into her domestic present and how food played a significant role in both.
Ms. Smith is perhaps best known for cofounding and drumming for bands such as The Blake Babies and The Mysteries of Life, which have been featured in MTV, The Village Voice, Rolling Stone, and Spin, among other outlets. She now writes a food column for Paste.
This memoir, which is loosely framed around cooking lessons with her son, moves back and forth in time as Ms. Smith recollects how she got started in music and how her career in rock eventually dovetailed with her passion for food and, later, her growing family.
