The Haven Middle School varsity girls cross country team took first place at the IESA Sectional Cross Country meet on Oct. 10 at Arlington Heights South Middle School, defeating 14 other schools from across the region. The Haven girls team advanced to compete for the second year in a row at the State IESA cross country meet held on Oct. 17 in Normal, Ill. In the State competition, they placed 4th in a field of the top 24 qualifying schools from across the State.
The girls varsity team members include 8th graders Gabrielle Horton, Eavan Norman, Samantha Steman and Margaret Halverson; 7th graders Isabelle Basso and Ashley Ruder; and 6th graders: Lauren Dain, Tate Lucas and Catherine Lynch.
Haven Middle School also offers a co-ed no-cut running club for any 6th, 7th or 8th graders. The team is composed of 55 middle school kids who compete in nine races throughout September and October and practice mornings before school. They are coached by Coach Louis Jones and Coach Marie Lynch.
