Presence Saint Francis Hospital is the only hospital in Evanston to have earned an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Score, announced last week by The Leapfrog Group, a national, independent nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health system.

The rating recognizes the hospital’s commitment to patient safety, according to officials for The Leapfrog Group and the Hospital Safety Score.

“Improving the health and safety of our patients is at the heart of everything we do,” said Roberta Luskin-Hawk, M.D., president and CEO of Presence Saint Francis Hospital.

“Our dedicated team of physicians, nurses and hospital staff are always looking at ways to provide better care, great outcomes and a wonderful patient experience.  Our drive to constantly improve the quality of care we provide the community is reflected in the recognition by the Leapfrog Group,” Dr. Luskin-Hawk added.

The Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a letter grade for each hospital, representing that institution’s overall ability to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals were assigned scores in October 2015, with 773 hospitals receiving an “A” grade.

“Presence Saint Francis’ ‘A’ grade is a powerful reminder of its commitment to putting patient safety above all else, and we are pleased to recognize the persistent efforts of your clinicians and staff to protect your patients,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, which administers the Hospital Safety Score.
