Kaylyn Pryor, 1995-2015
On Nov. 2, Kaylyn Pryor, 20, an Evanston resident, was shot and killed while waiting for a bus in the 7300 block of South May Street in Chicago. She had just left her grandmother’s house and was heading to her home in Evanston.
The target of the shooting was a 15-year-old boy who was standing next to Ms. Pryor. The shots were fired from a passing SUV.
Ms. Pryor graduated from Evanston Township High School, where she was a cheerleader, a pom kit, and a successful member of the track and field team. She had just started Robert Morris University Illinois to obtain a degree as a paralegal. Long term she was planning to be a lawyer.
A few weeks earlier, Ms. Pryor had won the “Mario, Make Me a Model” competition. She recently signed a contract with the Factor Women Model Management, a modeling agency. She had several other part-time jobs to pay for school.
A candlelight vigil was held in her memory at Elks Park in Evanston. Ms. Pryor grew up next to the park and often played there.
The wake was held on Nov. 13 at Calahan Funeral Home, 7030 South Halsted Street in Chicago. The funeral was held on Nov. 14 at New Covenant MB Church, 754 E. 77th St., Chicago.
