Evanston Fire Chief Greg Klaiber announces the promotions of the following staff members effective Nov. 24.
• Captain/Paramedic Paul Polep was promoted to Division Chief, filling the vacancy left when Division Chief Thomas Janetske retired. He will direct and lead the Department’s Emergency Medical Division. Polep joined the Department in September 16, 1996 as a Firefighter/Paramedic and was promoted to Captain/Paramedic in 2007.
• Captain/Paramedic Alan Lermer was promoted to Shift Chief, filling the vacancy left when Shift Chief David Arreguin retired. He joined the Department in March 12, 1990 as a Firefighter/Paramedic and was promoted to Captain/Paramedic in 2003.
• Fire Apparatus Operator Michael Perrino was promoted to Captain. Perrino joined the Department on February 7, 2006, and was promoted to Fire Apparatus Operator in 2014.
• Fire Apparatus Operator David Smrha was promoted to Captain. He joined the Department on February 7, 2006 and was promoted to Fire Apparatus Operator in 2014.
• Firefighter/Paramedic Sean Malloy was promoted to Fire Apparatus Operator. He joined the Department on January 9, 2006.
• Firefighter/Paramedic Jason Hays was promoted to Fire Apparatus Operator. He joined the Department on October 5, 2005.
