On Dec. 17, at approximately 10:40 p.m., a patrol officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 400 block of Ridge Avenue for a minor traffic violation. During the stop, the officer recovered a loaded Ruger .357 Magnum handgun from under the front passenger seat. The officer also recovered a plastic bag containing eleven rounds of .357 magnum ammunition from the driver’s front pants pocket.
After being taken into custody and placed into the rear of a squad car, the man began to kick the rear door of the squad car with his feet, causing the top of the door to bend outward. The man, a 31-year old Evanston resident, was subsequently charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Class 4 Felony, Criminal Damage to Government Supported Property – Class 4 Felony, Possession of Ammunition Without a Valid Firearm Owners ID Card – Class A Misdemeanor, and another offense.
