A taste of winter returns today, says a message from James Maiworm, the City’s Bureau Chief of Infrastructure Maintenance. Here is the rest of his message: “Precipitation has started with a bit of light snow and will change to a period of freezing rain before it turns to all rain around noon today. Little snow accumulation is expected, up to .10 inch of ice is expected and perhaps as much as 1 inch of rain is expected today and tonight.
“The current temperature is 32 and will be rising all day to a high of 37 by 9 or 10 p.m. Winds will be the biggest problem for Evanston today as they will gust up to 45-50mph this afternoon.
“Public Works has been monitoring this event for the past few days. Overnight crews anti-iced main roads and pre-salted dangerous hills and curves. Crews also pre-salting parking lots and City-owned buildings.
“Crews will continue to treat roads sidewalks and lots to prevent any accumulations of ice to occur until precipitation changes to rain.”
