Luis Alberto Urrea, author of “Into the Beautiful North,” the Evanston community’s Big Read selection, will present “Universal Border – from Tijuana to the World” at 7 p.m. on March 9 at Evanston Township High School, 1600 Dodge Ave.

Mr. Urrea shares his story of transformation from his beginnings in Tijuana to Pulitzer Prize finalist and beloved storyteller. Though recognized as a writer who concentrates on the border regions of the Southwestern United States, Mr. Urrea says, “Borders don’t interest me. I’m really in the business of building bridges.” He invites readers to think of the border as a place of convergence where meaningful conversations, and even love, between cultures begins.

The author will sign copies of the book immediately after the lecture in the school auditorium.

The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment of the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
