Join supporters of the arts, Brillianteen alumni, and McGaw YMCA friends as they gather on March 5 to relive six decades of musical theater and officially “retire” the program.

The Brillianteen Retirement Party will be held at Tommy Nevin’s Pub at 9pm, following the Saturday evening performance of the “Brillianteen Revue.” The 21-and-over event is not only a celebration of the long life of Brillianteen, it is a benefit for two new scholarships given to Evanston Township High School (ETHS) seniors in support of their artistic goals.

The Brillianteen era may be ending, but McGaw YMCA’s commitment to making the arts accessible to youth continues through two new scholarships named in honor of long-time Brillianteen supporters Judy Kemp and Cindi Schunemann. The Brillianteen-Kemp Scholarship will be need-based, while the Brillinteen-Schuneman Scholarship will be merit-based.

McGaw YMCA hopes to raise at least $10,000, providing two $1,000 scholarships per year for the next five years. The scholarships will be awarded in collaboration with ETHS, which has an already-established scholarship process and will choose the recipients.

For the past six decades, Brillianteen has introduced juniors and seniors to the experience of live theater in a non-competitive environment. This year’s Revue will feature highlights from those shows, including songs from “Annie,” “Grease, “Guys and Dolls,” “High School Musical,” and “Bye Bye Birdie.”
