Foot traffic at the Levy Center was steady throughout the day on Feb. 20, thanks to Sneaker Heads from far and wide who attended the Evanston Sneaker Exchange.
Attendees from as far as Elgin and Racine, Wis., spent the day with other Sneaker Heads hoping to buy, sell and trade their exclusive footwear.
Sneaker conventions provide a safe space for collectors both young and old to exchange wares. The City of Evanston made it possible for Club Éxito to host its annual fundraiser this year. Music was provided by local music group, Evolution Music. Cocina Azteca sold tacos and tamales to the hungry shoe aficionados and Jarritos were available from the Club Éxito Beverage Booth.
Members of Club Éxito/Success Club organized the fundraiser. Club Éxito is a positive youth development program operated by Latino Resources for students in grades 9-12. Students learn about business management principles and leadership by working with adult professionals. They are presented with opportunities to step up and take the lead on fundraising projects, such as last month’s Sneaker Exchange.
Funds were raised by general admission fees and vendors who purchased table space in advance.
Don Julio, a shoe vendor said, “I was glad to contribute to a good cause. I made profit from a couple transactions so it was worth the drive from Wisconsin to be here today.”
