Two members of the junior chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPEjr) at Evanston Township High School were honored by the Kiwanis Club of Evanston earlier this month. Oscar Coronel Bautista and Ange Loic Ngongang each received the Ted Van Zelst Award.

Oscar Coronel Bautista is the 2015-16 president of SHPEjr, which has had a successful season including a third place win at the 2016 Chicago Regional Science Bowl. The ETHS SHPEjr club partners with Northwestern University students involved in the STEM program.

Ange Ngongang arrived at ETHS as a freshman speaking only French, the language of his native Cameroon. He is leaning toward studying biomedical engineering in college. Michelle Vazquez, ETHS Post Secondary Counselor and club sponsor of SHPEjr, spoke of both students’ accomplishments.
