Antonio R. Johnson, who turned 18 years old on Christmas Day, died as a result of a fatal gunshot while riding his bicycle in Rogers Park on March 23. Antonio grew up in Evanston with a close-knit group of friends, whom he considered family. For much of his schooling, Antonio attended Jewish Children and Family Services’ Therapeutic Day School, where peers, faculty, staff, and especially the younger students deeply cherished his kind spirit.
Antonio loved young children and always sought out opportunities within the community to mentor and care for little kids. Antonio is survived by his adoptive mother, Linda Rowzee, who took care of him for nearly a decade. Separated by Illinois’ broken foster care system, Antonio leaves behind six siblings. He is also survived by his beloved four nieces and three nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on April 7 at the First Church of God,1524 Simpson St. A wake will begin at 10 a.m. at the church.
