On April 11, at approximately 12:15 p.m., Evanston police and fire units were dispatched to Evanston Township High School, to respond to a call about a fire in a hallway locker on the third floor of the building, said Commander Joseph Dugan of the Evanston Police Department. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire which was isolated to two lockers, but it had to ventilate the second and third floor areas around the lockers due to smoke from the fire. No one was injured in the incident, but students in the building where the fire occurred were relocated to another part of the school.

A check of the school video revealed a male student, 16 years of age who resides in Skokie, lit a paper object on fire and placed it in the locker, said the Commander. The juvenile was located by school officials and turned over to detectives from the Evanston police juvenile bureau, said Commander Dugan. The juvenile was subsequently charged with one count of felony aggravated arson and transported to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center. No further information can be released due to the age of the arrestee, said the Commander.
