The North Shore Choral Society will perform “Requiem for Peace” by Larry Nickel at 8 p.m. on May 14 in Pick-Staiger Concert Hall on the Northwestern campus.
“Requiem for Peace” is a passionate plea for international reconciliation written in 13 languages (Arabic, Dutch, Farsi, French, German, Hebrew, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, and Swedish as well as English, Greek, and Latin) and set to music evocative of their cultures.
In conjunction with its 80th anniversary season, the theme of which is “Songs of Peace,” the Choral Society commissioned students at King Arts School to create artwork with the theme of peace. First- and second-graders have incorporated the “Requiem for Peace” musical notations and words of peace into multi-media artworks that will be on display through May 14 at the Main Library and at the Pick-Staiger lobby for the May 14 concert.
Earlier, a collage of peace mandalas created by the school’s third-graders was displayed in the lobby of the lobby of Regina Dominican High School for the group’s April 3 Concert of International Friendship.
