The Evanston Cradle to Career (EC2C) initiative announced the kick off of its EVERBODY READS BOOK DRIVE. This drive, in partnership with the Evanston Public Library and Friends of the Library, is dedicated to ensuring that all Evanston children and youth have access to books that reflect the diversity of the community.
“We hope that you will not only purchase books yourselves from our specially selected list, but also encourage any individuals, groups, or networks you are a part of to consider joining this effort either through purchasing books or making a contribution to the Evanston Public Library to do so,” said Sheila Merry, Executive Director of EC2C. “We want all of our children to be able to see themselves in the books they read this summer.”
The book list and ways to contribute can be found here: http://epl.org/pdfs/EverbodyReadsList.pdf Purchased books can be dropped off at EPL branches or any Evanston community center or mailed directly to EC2C through the Amazon wish list to Evanston Cradle to Career, 2010 Dewey, 2nd Fl, Evanston, IL 60201.
Increasing access to diverse, high quality books is one important step in our commitment to reversing our community’s achievement gap.
