While the grounds of Grosse Point Lighthouse National Landmark, Central Street at Sheridan Road, are open to the public free of charge year-round, tours of the lighthouse are held seasonally due to weather conditions.
The District conducts regularly scheduled tours of the lighthouse June through September, on Saturdays and Sundays at 2, 3 and 4 p.m. The facility is closed Independence Day and Labor Day holiday weekends. As part of the tour, visitors get a chance to climb the 141-steps to the top of the light tower.
For reasons of safety, by order of the Evanston Fire Marshall, there is a 12-person limit on each tour, and children under 8 years of age are not permitted. Visitors are admitted on a first-come basis. Access to the light tower is sometimes discontinued during extreme weather conditions or renovation work. Up-to-date information is available at 847-328-6961.
Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children aged 8 to 12.
