The Evanston Police and Fire Foundation (EPFF), with the full support of Valli Produce, is hosting The Great Evanston Police vs. Fire Grill Off. The event will be held in the Evanston Plaza’s parking lot at Dempster and Dodge. Cooking will commence at 11 am on July 16, with the tastiest burgers in town being served between Noon and 2:00 pm.  For a minimum donation of $5:00, that’s right a mere five US dollars, you will get to savor not only the “Uniform Bleu Burger” but also the “Where There’s Fire(fighters), There’s Smoke Burger” ! Burger recipes will be available so you can emulate the cooking skills of Evanston’s first responders in your own home.

All of the ingredients and more are being donated by Valli Produce, this level of support for not only the men and women of the EPD and EFD but also the community at large is exceptionally generous. EPFF would like to take this moment to thank Carmine Presta, President of Valli Produce and his whole team, including the plaza’s leasing agent Schwab Realty, for their marvelous support.

Add to all that the US Army is bringing a Rock Wall and other items for one and all to explore. Evanston’s very own radio station WCGO 1590AM, has dedicated air time to promote this event and is going to be doing a live broadcast from the Evanston Plaza. Hecky Powell (Hecky’s BBQ) is kindly loaning us two of his big open grills for the cooks.

EPFF, is a non-profit, 100% volunteer organization that raises funds in support of the brave women and men who put their lives at risk every day to ensure the safety of the citizens of Evanston. EPFF has provided funding for a wide range of items like a bullet resistant vest for Rony, Evanston PD’s K9, to a state of the art Incident Board for the Evanston FD. Alongside the material items EPFF also helps fund the Evanston Citizens Police Academy and the Evanston Citizens Fire Academy. Both academies are open to all residents and by using hands on instruction, give an insight into the daily lives of our Police Officers and Firefighter-Paramedics (all Evanston firefighters are fully qualified paramedics).  When any two communities begin to understand each other a whole other level of cooperation and communication does happen.
