Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and friends cut the ribbon for the official opening of the new classroom extension at the Ecology Center on July 19.

The Evanston Environmental Association donated $43,000 to complete funding for the project, which transformed the former greenhouse space into an accessible extension of the classroom, allowing room for new educational displays and open space for families to enjoy.

The new space features a tree exhibit that will highlight Illinois native habitats and wildlife. Ecology Center staff members have worked to expand and update the enclosures of the critters that call the Ecology Center home as well as the educational programming opportunities offered in the space.
