About 200 people attended the screening of “The Occupation of the American Mind: Israel’s Public Relations War in the United States” on July 31 at the Main Library, 1703 Orrington Ave. The presentation, followed by a panel discussion, was sponsored by the Chicago Area Peace Action, Neighbors for Peace, and the Peace and Justice Committee of Lake Street Church. The film focused on how politicians and the media have presented Israel as a victim, in spite of Israel’s aggressive history in the Middle East, especially in Palestine.

Afterward, Evanston Services Librarian Lorena Neal introduced panel members Dr. Ghada Hashem Talhami, author, and D.K. Pearson, Professor of Politics, Emerita, Lake Forest College, and Richard Cahan, journalist, author, and member of the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation in Evanston, who spoke and took comments from the audience.
