The City of Evanston and the Federation of Hometown Associations from the State of Jalisco, Mexico (also known as “FEDEJAL”), will celebrate a prelude to Hispanic Heritage Month at the fifth annual “Jalisco en Evanston” event from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 1 at the Levy Center, 300 Dodge Ave.
The free event is open to the public and will feature live mariachi music, folkloric dance performances, and artisans straight from Jalisco. Food will be available for purchase.
“Jalisco en Evanston” is part of FEDEJAL’s weeklong tour of the
Chicago area. Each year, during the months of August and September, FEDEJAL celebrates “Semana Jalisco” (Jalisco Week), where it tours several Illinois cities to celebrate its culture and traditions.
FEDEJAL builds bridges between the U.S. and the Mexican State of Jalisco. FEDEJAL aspires to a global society that embraces diversity of cultures and shares a commitment to ensure that all people who want to work, contribute to their communities, and seek a better life for themselves and their families, have the opportunity to do so in an environment of dignity and respect.
