Evanston’s ’Kits, ’Cats and Kids Block Party will turn Sherman Avenue and Clark Street into a great place for the whole family to play! The free block party will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 4:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Downtown Evanston.

This year, the block party will move a block north and expand a block west to make room for more fun. The event will take place on Sherman Avenue, between Church and Clark Streets, and on Clark Street, between Sherman and Benson Avenues. The streets will be closed to traffic.

The ‘Kits, ‘Cats and Kids Block Party will feature games, arts and crafts, family-friendly activities, live music, a performance from Beatles cover band Kaleidoscope Eyes, the ETHS and NU Marching Bands, and plenty of dining options. Community members are encouraged to come hungry and dine at one of Downtown Evanston’s great restaurants, or stop by the wide variety of food trucks serving savory and sweet fare. The following food vendors are scheduled to be on site: Amanecer Tacos, Babycakes, Beavers Donuts, Chicago Cupcake, Chicago Lunchbox and La Cocinita. The first 200 hot dogs will be free, thanks to sponsorship by First Bank & Trust.

Discounted football tickets will be sold at the Block Party to help fill Ryan Field stadium with a sea of purple at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, when the Wildcats will play the Duke Blue Devils. Discounted tickets can also be purchased at NUSPORTS.com with the code PURPLE through Friday, September 16.

The ETHS football game that weekend will be a home game against Barrington High School on Lazier Field at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff for the varsity game is 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 16.

Community members are encouraged to bike or take public transportation to the block party, which is located just a short walk from the CTA and Metra Davis Street stations. Indoor bike parking is located on the second floor of the Sherman Plaza Self Park Garage (821 Davis St.) and a number of bike racks are located at the corner of Church Street and Sherman Avenue near the Barnes & Noble bookstore, as well as on Benson Avenue, south of Clark Street.
