Over the next 10 weeks, the City of Evanston will be contracting alley paving work at various locations throughout the city. The work will include necessary sewer and drainage improvements and alley paving. Garage aprons will be reconstructed to meet the new alley pavement as needed. Minor preparatory and staging work will begin the week of September 6 with full construction activities scheduled to begin on September 12.

The following alleys are part of this project and will be constructed in the order listed:

  • H-shaped alley north of Greenwood St., east of Darrow Ave. – Week of Sept. 12
  • T-shaped alley north of Reba Pl., east of Ridge Ave. – Week of Sept. 12
  • North-South alley north of Central St. (to Isabella St.), east of Eastwood Ave. – Week of Sept. 19
  • H-shaped alley north of Greenwood St., east of Dodge Ave. – Week of Sept. 26

View the attached project newsletter for a map of locations and more information.

Vehicular access through the alley, as well as access to garages and parking areas, will be prohibited once sewer and paving work begins. An additional newsletter will be distributed prior to alley closures indicating the exact start date for each particular alley. During this time, residents will be required to use street parking; street cleaning restrictions will be waived for a one-block radius. Refuse and recycling collection will occur on the street side of each property while the alleys are closed.
