Mark Anthony Allegretti, June 30, 1948 – September 11, 2016, after a lingering illness, returned home to the welcoming arms of the God he loved deeply and served honorably.

He is survived by his beloved children:  Marlena Applebaum of Asheville, N.C.; Mary of Evanston, and Marco of Mt. Pleasantville, Mich., and brothers Thomas of San Francisco; Francis of Des Moines, Ia; and Joseph of Grasonville, Md., nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his father Dr. Joseph E., mother Olga and brother David.

Founder of Allegretti Rug Masters in Evanston, Mr. Allegretti earned a reputation for integrity and for utilizing his discerning eye to select, present and restore beautiful, museum quality rugs.  He cherished his relationships with his trusted, accomplished, long time staff and loyal customers.

A lifelong, devout spiritual seeker of truth and wisdom Mr. Allegretti’s generosity was, usually, anonymous.  He frequently hosted the U.S. meditation retreats of His Holiness Gayuna Cealo, a Buddhist monk from Japan and served as Treasurer of the Foundation for Global Harmony U.S.  A past leader of the Chicago based Gurdjieff Association, he was also a student of this early 20th century mystic, philosopher and spiritual teacher.

The funeral mass was held on Sept. 16 at St. Mary’s Church.
