On Sunday, October 2, 2016, members of the Evanston Police Department will be taking part in the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® walk event hosted by the Northwest Center Against Sexual Assault (CASA). The event will take place at 10:00 AM at Centennial Park, 1821 Sheridan Road. Sexual assault and sexual abuse are problems that plague society and it has been reported that every two minutes someone in America is sexually assaulted. The Evanston Police Department understands the detrimental effect these crimes have on individuals, families, and the community as a whole.
This is the 3rd annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event, which aims to raise awareness of sexual assault and sexual abuse and those affected by such heinous acts. The walk is designed to have men walk in women’s heels as a way to bring attention and raise awareness. Although a fun and empowering event, the real focus is the many survivors of sexual assault of sexual abuse.
Northwest CASA is a local non-profit with offices in the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center that provides free services to sexual assault/abuse survivors and their families. The walk is being hosted in an effort to raise funds so that quality services can continue to be provided to all that are in need.
