On Oct. 4, at approximately 8:20 p.m., members of the Evanston Police Department tactical unit were deployed in the area of Dodge Avenue and Emerson Street, when they observed a vehicle disregard the red light at that location, said Commander Joe Dugan of the Evanston Police Department. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the 1600 block of Emerson Street, but the driver continued traveling eastbound and was observed by the officers leaning way over into the passenger compartment, said the Commander.
Upon stopping the vehicle in the 1400 block of Emerson Street, the officers observed the driver, a 41-year old Evanston Man, acting in a nervous manner and further smelled an odor of burnt cannabis emanating from the vehicle, said the Commander. A check of the vehicle revealed an open can of beer and a pipe used to smoke narcotics. A loaded Sig Sauer .380 caliber handgun was also recovered from the rear passenger area of the vehicle, said the Commander.
The man was transported to the police station and charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, and other offenses.
