The Kiwanis Club of Evanston recently honored two members of Scholastic Bowl at Evanston Township High School. Their advisor, Ryan McLaughlin, introduced Jakob Reinke and Alec Jacobson.
Both young men enjoy the challenge of the “bowl” games as they compete to answer trivia questions against other Central Suburban League schools. Alec has been a member of the team throughout his years as ETHS, and Jakob joined as a junior. The students explained that frequently each member of the team has a “specialty” area of expertise, i.e., one student may be gifted in science, another in literature or mathematics.
Both students received a book on leadership, a certificate of achievement and a $25 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble. The awards honor Ted Van Zelst, a Kiwanis member for more than 25 years, a corporate leader and inventor, a humanitarian who led the battle to legitimize chronic fatigue syndrome, and a prominent art collector.
