The Evanston Minority Business Consortium, Inc. (EMBCI) recently held a graduation ceremony for the Pre-Apprenticeship Program at Family Focus. The graduates had invited their family members and friends to the event.
The purpose of the PATP is to train unemployed and underemployed young adults and to provide them with training to facilitate their entry into a building trade union apprenticeship program of their choice. The training includes subjects such as, work ethics, blueprint reading, basic mathematics, safety and similar items.
Of the 20 people initially enrolled, 12 completed the program. Six individuals have been placed on jobs; one person is going to college; one person is going into business; two are waiting to have records expunged; one is ill; and one is in the process of trying to secure a revoked driver’s license.
The next training session begins on Jan. 14, 2017. Anyone interested in enrolling should contact EMNBCI at 847-492-0177.
