On April 4, 2017 one seat on the five-member board of Ridgeville Park District’s Board of Commissioners will be open for election. This is an unpaid position and may only be filled by a person who is a registered voter and who lives within the Park District boundaries. The date and time of filing determines position on the ballot. Commissioners are elected for six-year terms. These are dedicated individuals who help make this community a better place to live!
Park District elections are non-partisan, and candidates are nominated by petition. The 2017 Candidates Guide which includes the necessary forms can be downloaded from the Illinois State Board of Election’s web site elections.il.gov As a public service and special courtesy of Ridgeville Park District petitions can also be picked up now at the District office 908 Seward St., between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. The Ridgeville Park District and its secretary make no representations regarding the accuracy or validity of these forms, so prospective candidates are advised to to consult with an attorney before taking action based upon these forms.
Each candidate must submit petitions containing signatures of qualified voters residing in the District equal in number of not less then 2% of the ballots cast in the last Park District election – for this election, 27 qualified signatures. Each candidate must file a statement of economic interest with the Cook County Clerk’s Office.
Candidates must live in Evanston within the Ridgeville Park District boundaries. Candidates’ petitions must be filed in the district office no earlier than 8 a.m. on Dec. 12 and no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 19.
The Park District is an independent government agency established in 1939 governed by five elected Commissioners. Regular monthly board meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month, at 7:45 PM in the Community House, 908 Seward Street, Evanston, IL 60202. Board members therefore have an opportunity to participate in the decisions, which determine policies, park programs, recreational facilities, and the annual operating budget.
