On Dec. 27, at approximately 5:15 p.m., a police officer saw a vehicle traveling in the 1800 block of Ridge Avenue cross over the double yellow line. After the officer conducted a traffic stop, he smelled burnt cannabis coming from inside the vehicle, said Commander Joe Dugan of the Evanston Police Department.
The officer asked the two male occupants (driver and front seat passenger) to exit the vehicle, during which time a pat down of the passenger revealed a loaded Kel Tec 9mm handgun in his waistband. The passenger, an 18-year old Skokie male, was taken into custody and transported to the Evanston Police Department where he was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Class 4 Felony, and other offenses, said the Commander.
The driver, an 18-year old Evanston resident, was issued a traffic citation and released. Upon further inspection of the recovered handgun, it was discovered that the serial number had been obliterated, said the Commander.
