Looking beyond their own private celebrations, Evanstonians, as every year, opened their hearts this holiday season to make things brighter for others.
• Community members responded “with overwhelming support,” to a request from the Fire Department for donations of clothing and other items for 18 residents displaced by a fire on Dec. 5.
•Life in Progress held a glove drive, with a goal of collecting 100 pairs of gloves.
•Topping last year’s donations, @properties Evanston provided 37 Christmas dinners to Family Focus this year.
•Continuing their 50-year tradition the Chessmen Club of the North Shore delivered more than 350 baskets of food to community and senior centers throughout the Evanston area. Over the years the club has distributed more than 10,000 food baskets, feeding 50,000 families in the Evanston community
during the holiday season.
•The City’s annual Holiday Food & Toy Drive provided food and gift baskets to 409 families.
