On Jan. 9, Evanston/Skokie School District 65 officially welcomed Elizabeth Cardenas-Lopez as its new Director of Literacy. She joins the Curriculum and Instruction team and will oversee literacy efforts to support all children in District 65. The District said Dr. Cardenas-Lopez brings a deep knowledge of literacy and bilingual education and is fluent in both English and Spanish.
“Elizabeth impressed our team with her passion, knowledge, and commitment to collaboration while always keeping students at the center,” said Stacy Beardsley, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction. “For nearly two years, the D65 Literacy Team has worked collaboratively to create and implement our new literacy framework with the goal of accelerating achievement for all learners while specifically focusing on supports for our most striving learners. I am so proud of the work our team is doing and am confident that Elizabeth will be a strong addition and a great leader and partner in this important work.”
“I am honored and excited to be part of the community of educators, leaders, and learners in District 65. I have a strong conviction that every child can achieve its maximum potential with the right opportunities, appropriate resources, and access to quality teaching and learning practices,” said Dr. Cardenas-Lopez. “As the Literacy Director, I am committed to working collaboratively with teachers, specialists, coaches, school leaders, district staff, parents, and community to strengthen our literacy instruction – honoring the past, building on the present, and pressing forward to a brighter future for every child, every day – doing what it takes.”
