The Evanston/North Shore NAACP Installation of Officers took place at the Unitarian Church of Evanston on Jan. 22. John Fuller, 1st Vice President, welcomed several hundred people to the program and swearing-in of the 2017-2019 Officers of the Evanston Branch of the NAACP, founded in 1928.

Dino Robinson, of Northwestern University Press and Shorefront, gave an overview of the history of the National and Evanston NAACP. Renee Black led musical selections, including “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and “We Shall Overcome.” Vernon Clark led the Second Baptist Church choir.

George Mitchell, outgoing president of the Evanston Branch, introduced incoming president Michael C. R. Nabors, who presented his vision for the future of Evanston Branch #3015.

Retired Judge Mary Maxwell Thomas performed the swearing-in of executive committee officers Rev. Dr. Michael C. R. Nabors (President), John Fuller (1st VP), Gerri Sizemore (2nd VP), Sharon Weeks (3rd VP), Marie Wilson (Treasurer), Judith Treadway (Secretary), and 11 members-at-large: Katherine Bridges, Theola Murphy, Debra Evans, Krissie Harris, Ervin Johnson, George Mitchell, Willie Shaw, Terri Shepard, Jernone Smith, Charles Toney-Jones, and Dana Waldrup.
