On Feb. 27, 2 at approximately 1 a.m., patrol officers stopped a vehicle at Howard Street and Western Avenue because it had an expired registration.  While speaking with the two occupants of the vehicle, officers saw a handgun on the driver’s side floorboard of the vehicle, said Commander Joe Dugan of the Evanston Police Department.  The driver of the vehicle, a 22-year old Chicago man, and the front seat passenger, a 28 year old Chicago woman, were taken into custody. A loaded .45 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun was recovered, said the Commander.

The man, who was on parol, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and other charges. No charges were filed against the woman.

A check of the serial number on the handgun revealed it was stolen out of Evanston during a burglary in July 2016, said the Commander.
