Evanston property owners concerned about their property taxes have an opportunity to do something about next year’s tax bills. Homeowners can appeal their 2017 assessed values with the Cook County Assessor through Monday, March 27.
Evanston residents seeking help filing an appeal can call 311 (847-448-4311 outside of Evanston) to either schedule an appointment to visit the Property Tax Assessment Review Office or to request an Appeal Authorization Form, which allows an appeal to be filed online on their behalf without visiting the office. Those seeking an Appeal Authorization Form may visit cityofevanston.org/propertytax, contact 311, or email Mitzi Gibbs at mgibbs@cityofevanston.org.
2017 reassessed values will be reflected on second installment tax bills, which will be mailed in July of 2018. An appeal must be filed this year for a property’s assessed value to be reduced.
Residents may also contact the Skokie Courthouse branch of the Cook County Assessor’s Office at 847-470-7237 or Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin’s Office at 847-864-1209 for assistance.
