Nearly 100 early childhood educators and kindergarten teachers attended the Evanston Cradle to Career Early Childhood/Kindergarten Educator Summit on Feb. 21 at School District 65’s administration building. Stacy Beardsley, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction at District 65, discussed the newly developed standards for kindergarten readiness with early childhood educators, including home-based childcare providers.
Dr. Audrey Soglin, Executive Director of the Illinois Education Foundation, talked about the role of childhood trauma in undermining early literacy and kindergarten readiness. Early childhood and kindergarten teachers then had an opportunity to discuss how to most effectively implement the new kindergarten readiness guidelines.
