The Justin Wynn Fund held its Annual Red Tie Soirée last month at the Evanston Art Center, 1717 Central St.  More than 180 people enjoyed food and drink from local establishments, live music, and a great selection of raffle packages.

The event raised more than $37,000, to be used to support the Justin Wynn Leadership Academy, a community service-based youth leadership program in Evanston.

In addition, the Justin Wynn Fund honored Willie Miller Jr. as its 2017 Buddy Portugal Award winner. The Justin Wynn Fund Board created the Buddy Portugal Award in 2002, and it is given annually to recognize adults who have made outstanding contributions to Evanston’s youth. Mr. Miller is the current President of the Fellowship of Afro American Men (FAAM).

His nominator wrote, “Mr. Miller’s continued dedication, leadership, and mentorship with youth, volunteers, and coaches has made a significant impact in the Evanston community.”
